Placing spouse as a salaried employee
I am a technical consultant providing scientific consultancy services to different interested organizations. Nature of my work is mostly home-based with travel to client project locations. Till now I paid service tax and now will be paying GST for my services. The expenses that are incurred for business purpose, like travel and communication, are deducted from my total income. This is as per the advice of my auditor. I have placed one driver for day to day mobility as salaried employee.
Now, due to nature of my work I have to maintain bills, vouchers, have to maintain files related to communication with the clients, and also have to coordinate with different types of vendors for travel booking and similar other business related works.
Is it legal if I place my spouse as a salaried employee to support me in all such administrative and account related activities. This will help me in focusing more on my business. Since I operate from home therefore it is more practical if I place my spouse instead of some other person.
Please suggest if this is legal, and what are the modalities that need to be taken care of in this kind of arrangement.
